why we exist

Our Purpose

The purpose of P.E.A.C.E. is two pronged: to advocate for Better Governance and to defend the Territorial Integrity of Belize.

Better Governance

Belize needs to take a radical road to better governance. The governance in Belize is not efficient. It is quite outdated in how the actors are chosen and how it is operated day to day. Our government is way too expensive to run and it is steeped in nasty politics and characters instead of being based on the unbiased tackling of issues that affect all of us, no matter how we vote in general elections.

Better Governance is obtainable far more easily than many Belizeans estimate and P.E.A.C.E. is here to catalyze the Belizean public to demand Better Governance thru government accountability and transparency, as well as equal voting rights and crowd governance.

Causes

Better Governance

Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement is convinced that due to Belize’s small surface area and favorable demographics that it can become a country that is one of the 5 most well governed countries on Earth. P.E.A.C.E. is making the inroads with public and civil partners for the Government of Belize to achieve a heightened level of foresight in planning, overall transparency and efficiency in operations. This will increase the GDP, the quality of life and the environmental protection standards of our little Belize and make us a country with a solid economy, amongst other good things like this.

Anti Corruption

In 2016, we supported the call by the BNTU to have our government sign UNCAC and were pleased to see that happen in 2017. However there is a lack of political will by our government to implement and enforce UNCAC. Today, corruption is found in every department of government, robbing our people of precious resources for basic services. P.E.A.C.E. is committed to lead the fight on corruption and rid our country of this social cancer. Cognizant that a government cannot police itself, the P.E.A.C.E. is committed to become the anti-corruption watchdog agency that will uphold a zero tolerance on corruption.

Redistricting

The Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement is of the firm view that the defense of our Constitution is the patriotic duty of every Belizean; to that end the Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement has led the way with its precedent-setting legal challenge to the state of voter malapportionment across political divisions. The state of malapportionment, which severely undermines our democracy, exists as a result of a sustained dereliction of constitutional duty by the Elections and Boundaries Commission. The Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement, as vanguards of our Constitution, took to the Courts to force the Commission to respect the Constitution of Belize and to legally demand that re-redistricting be carried out in Belize.

Territorial Integrity

For much of its existence, the territory that was to become known as Belize has been under threat from Guatemala who claims much of Belize’s land and much of its seas. Guatemala has used its superior size to try to intimidate Belize in every possible way. Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement is here to stand with Belizeans and foreign supporters to make sure that Guatemala never gets a square inch of Belizean sovereign land.

Causes

NO to ICJ

The Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement stands in opposition to the unfounded Guatemalan Claim against the country of Belize and against the judicial settlement of the territorial dispute at the ICJ.
